Algernon Oswald Whiting was an English first-class cricketer and tea planter. The son of George Whiting, he was born at Kensington in April 1861. He was educated firstly at Charterhouse School, before leaving there for Sherborne School in 1874. From Sherborne, he went up to Merton College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, he played first-class cricket for Oxford University, making his debut against the Gentlemen of England at Oxford in 1881. He played first-class cricket for Oxford until 1882,
