Alpendorf is a village and a part of the town St. Johann im Pongau. It is 55 km (34 mi) south of the Austrian city of Salzburg. It is at an altitude of 850 m (2,790 ft) above sea level. It is 3 km (1.9 mi) away from the town centre of Sankt Johann im Pongau, a large town dominated by the Cathedral of Pongau. The economy is largely dependent on tourism, particularly during the winter months when thousands of predominantly German, Danish and Dutch skiers visiting the village. The resort is popular
