text: Formal relations between Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia were established after the independence of Kyrgyzstan in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Soviet Union when in 1993 president Askar Akayev of Kyrgyzstan visited Mongolia for the first time. During the visit, two states signed several agreements including their first treaty of friendship and cooperation. Formal diplomatic relations between the two countries were established a year before in 1992 after Mongolia recognized Kyrgyz independence.
