The State Theatre is a movie theater in Traverse City, Michigan. In its current iteration, it is operated by the Traverse City Film Festival, and presents a year-round schedule of film and live performances. The State is the fourth theatre on its site on East Front Street. The first theatre on the block, Steinberg's Grand Opera House, opened in 1894. It closed in 1915, and was succeeded by the Lyric Theatre, which burned down in 1923. A new Lyric Theatre was built on the same site, and burned do
